require_paired(release: KgRelease | None, surface: SchemaSurface, *, installed_version: str, database: str) → ReleaseCompatibility

The compatibility report, or IncompatibleReleaseError.

The gate every client passes at connect: release is the store’s node (None when the store has none), surface the installed package’s schema surface (schema_deps.load_default_surface). The report comes back only when every served dataset’s closure fingerprints are reproduced; a drifted or unverified dataset, or a store without a release node, raises with the paired package named so the remedy is one line: install that package, or point TORCHCELL_KG_VERSION at a release built under the installed one.
