WHERE in the provenance chain a value died – an honest, typed absence.

Ordered by how actionable the gap is. Only deferred_pending_source_review is recoverable work (comb the primary paper’s SI); the other three are terminal for us (there is nothing of ours left to read). This split is what turns the gap-set into a worklist rather than a pile of nulls.

not_released_by_primary is the construct-store case: the primary MEASURED and reports the value, and does not release the artifact it lives in. Kang 2026 states the construct sequences are supplied by the JBEI registry “upon request” and Carruthers 2025 states “Plasmid sequences were verified by whole plasmid sequencing” without depositing them, so neither is not_reported_by_primary (the primary did report it) nor deferred_pending_source_review (no SI of ours holds it): the artifact was withheld, and closing the gap takes a request to the authors or the registry, not another pass over the mirror.
