checkout_package_version(repo_root: Path) → tuple[str, str | None]

(torchcell.__version__, tag) of the checkout at repo_root.

The version is read from the checkout’s torchcell/__version__.py; the tag is git describe --tags --exact-match HEAD and None when HEAD is untagged, which is what a build between two package releases records.
